Marianas Trench like to make spectacular red carpet entrances

Written by LNTV Germany / April 20, 2017

The band likes to make unusual, spectacular red carpet entrances at Award shows - always coming up with something unusual, quirky and crazy. See some exciting highlights below together with an explanation of each photo and a quote from the band:

Photo 1: 2017 Juno Awards on April 2nd in the Nation’s Capital, Ottawa, Canada. Marianas Trench was nominated for “Pop Album of the Year” for their album “Astoria.” Picture below is band arrival at the red carpet.

Inspired by ZZ Top, here we are as sharply dressed men. My wife made my suit, so that's cool.” – Matt Webb, guitarist of Marianas Trench

Picture 2: Red carpet entrance at the 2016 iHeart & MuchMusic Video Awards. The band arrived in a golf cart ready to play golf on the red carpet as if it were a golf green.

Just playing through while trying to avoid hazards. The front 9 were a bitch.” – Matt Webb

Picture 3: Red carpet entrance at the 2015 MuchMusic Video Awards. The band arrived on the red carpet water skiing in their best swimming outfits.

You’ll be happy to know that both Ian and Mike are pleasure craft operator certified.  And speaking of pleasure crafts, take a look at Ramsay’s man-kini.  Good thing he’s packing.” – Matt Webb

Pictures 4 & 5: Red carpet entrance at the 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards. Josh and Matt arrived on the carpet as if they had just woken up in the morning out of bed and suddenly found themselves on the red carpet. They arrived in a king size bed on a flatbed truck with women, pillow fights (feathers got everywhere on the red carpet), and breakfast cereal. They walked the red carpet undergoing their morning routine: eating breakfast and brushing their teeth.

We actually had no idea there was an award show going on. Josh and I just rolled out of bed, poured a tasty bowl of CTC (cinnamon toast crunch) and proceeded to have a pillow fight with some hot models in lingerie. Look, we’re not accountants.” – Matt Webb

Photos 6, 7, 8: Red carpet entrance at the 2013 MuchMusic Video Awards. The band arrived dressed as mermaids with a dunk tank on decorated flatbed truck. Fans and hosts got to dunk the band members.

“It’s mer-MAN. Come on, it’s a dunk tank on the back of a flatbed. Carni’s fo life.” – Matt Webb

Photos 9 & 10: Red carpet entrance at the 2012 MuchMusic Video Awards. The band arrived in a bouncy castle being pulled on a flatbed truck. The entrance was themed to the “Ever After” fairytale album. There were actors dressed as toy soldiers marching alongside the bouncy castle waving Marianas Trench flags. At the red carpet, the band came dashing out of the bouncy castle riding inflatable horses.

Not sure what the hell we were thinking with this one, let’s dress as soldiers and arrive in an inflatable bouncy castle on horseback. Makes sense.” – Matt Webb

Photo 11: Red carpet entrance at the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards. The band arrived in 2 human size hamster balls rolling up the red carpet.

“There is actually only 20 minutes of oxygen supply inside the ball… for ONE person.  Thankfully it only opens from the outside and it was 30 degrees outside. I may or may not have had a switchblade in my pocket.”  Matt Webb

Photo 12: Red carpet entrance at the 2010 MuchMusic Video Awards. The band arrived in a hot tub. There was water in there and they walked the carpet in their suits all wet.

Whilst getting out of the hot tub, I provocatively removed my blazer, spun it around like a stripper and launched it into the crowd, only to have it land on the head of a well put together member of all girl band, Girlicious. Her dress was soaked and her 4-hour award show makeup was ruined. Needless to say, I didn’t have a chance.” – Matt Webb

Photo 13: Red carpet entrance at the 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards. This carpet entrance happened after the release of the Masterpiece Theatre album, hot off the #1 hit single “Cross My Heart.” The band arrived on the red carpet in a party truck in a full out parade. They had a marching band playing, cheerleaders and acrobats doing their thing alongside the truck.

Here we are as a parade float. What you can’t see is the giant marching band and mob of cheerleaders that preceded our arrival.  This gag would go on to be copied by other bands, yet never duplicated, year after year after year. We’re the original parade float gangsters and don’t you fucking forget it.” -  Matt Webb

Photo 14: This was the first MMVAs for the band for their debut album “Fix Me.” They chose to walk the red carpet with a party sub and fed people as they walked up.

"Nothing says we came to party like a 6-foot party sub. I can’t tell you how many people got food poisoning from the mayo on this bad boy.” -  Matt Webb
