Cher: The Making of an Icon

Written by LN Team / June 26, 2018

Cher - often referred to as the Goddess of Pop (and we wouldn’t disagree) is heading to Auckland and we can’t wait.

With a career spanning over fifty years, there’s been an evolution of Cher over the years - and we’re here to take you on a trip down memory lane, from the very beginning, to current day.

Cher’s humble career began all the way back in 1965 in the husband-wife duo Sonny & Cher - their hit song ‘I Got You Babe’ soared in both the American and British charts:

At the same time, Cher began a solo music career (with ‘Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)’, and started her own television show several years later.

Not stopping at just music and television, Cher expanded in the 80s and 90s into broadway and film acting - with films like ‘Moonstruck’ (which saw her win an Academy Award for Best Actress).

The “Cher” effect of auto-tune was born with ‘Believe’ - the 1998 hit song which went on the become the biggest-selling single of all time by a female artist in the UK.

Today, Cher is still an icon as much as ever - but for different reasons, such as her hilarious tweets and memes made of her. This one about her walking around in public in a face mask is oh-so relatable:

She also loves to tweet. A lot. Here are our favourites:
