A history of Hermitude!

Written by LN TEAM / August 20, 2019

Australian electronic duo Hermitude are set to return to New Zealand this November with a stack of brand new music - and ahead of their return we’ve put together a brief history of the band…

Before they became Hermitude, they were Funk Injections - but officially became Hermitude in the year 2000.

After releasing three albums over the following years, they released ‘HyperParadise’ in 2012 - the title-track of which was remixed by fellow Australian Flume:

The album went on to win Best Independent Dance/Electronica album at the Australian Independent Records Association, and the 8th Annual Australian Music Prize (AMP) - and about the album they said:

“HyperParadise is Hermitude hitting the bullseye of their artistic vision, a beautifully inventive record of future beats and electronica. It’s not just their meticulousness in production and musicianship, it’s the passion and love they have for instrumental music that makes them so special. The songs are bubbling with personality: choruses leap out of songs demanding an emotional response, differing for each listener.”

Back in that same year, they did a great performance for Triple J’s Like A Version where they covered Major Lazer’s ‘Get Free’:

They’ve played endless live shows and DJ sets over the years, including this standout DJ set in Sydney’s Boiler Room:

After dropping their 2015 album ‘Dark Night Sweet Light’, the guys went on to receive seven nominations at the ARIA Music Awards that year, including Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Independent Release, Producer of the Year, Best Live Act, and more.

They even received a platinum plaque for ‘The Buzz’ from that album:

More recently they dropped ’Stupid World’ in 2018 with Bibi Bourelly (who co-wrote Rihanna’s hit song ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’)

They wrapped up 2018 with some killer Spotify stats - with over 34 million total streams:
