The LN Freshers' Guide to.... Bristol

Written by Ellie Parker / September 29, 2016

Hello new resident of Bristol! How are you settling in? Found the union? Signed up to some clubs and societies? Good, good.

Now, to initiate you into the local music scene, we've hand-picked a few of the shows and events you might want to get yourself along to before the Christmas break. First up....

WHO'S THAT, THEN? Rae Sremmurd are brothers Khalif "Swae Lee" Brown and Aaquil "Slim Jxmmi" Brown
WHY SHOULD I GO? There's no better place to live your best #SremmLife than with the boys themselves. See also: Start A Party.
WHERE / WHEN IS THE SHOW? O2 Academy, Saturday 21st October
BOOK TICKETS

WHO'S THAT, THEN? Rapper, writer and educator Akala from North London.
WHY SHOULD I GO? He's celebrating 10 years of his 'It's Not A Rumour' album on this one, so expect a few songs he hasn't played live in years, including the reworked version of 'Carried Away'.
WHERE / WHEN IS THE SHOW? Bristol Marble Factory, Thursday 20th October

WHO'S THAT, THEN? Aquilo are Ben and Tom, a pop soul band originally from the Lake District dontcha know.
WHY SHOULD I GO? The Guardian say they make a "ravishingly refined sort of dreamily sad electronica". Imagine giving your brain a hug. That's what watching Aquilo is like. And the Thekla is ON A BOAT.
WHERE / WHEN IS THE SHOW? Thekla, Tuesday 25th October.
BOOK TICKETS

WHO'S THAT, THEN? Hot Dub Time Machine
WHY SHOULD I GO? Because it is literally the party of the century. More on that over here.

WHO'S THAT, THEN? The wonderful Aurora
WHY SHOULD I GO? If not for her incredible vocal talents, Aurora really lets rip when she gets on a stage. Expect flailing limbs, singalongs, and smiles all round!
WHERE / WHEN IS THE SHOW? The Trinity Arts Centre, Saturday 8th October
BOOK TICKETS

That's enough to get you started, we reckon. While you're here, go have a read of what Iwan from the Bristol Exchange has to say about your new city.
