Bristol Freshers! Here's What You Need To Know About Your New Home Town.

Written by Andy Ritchie / September 29, 2016

So... you've moved to Bristol. How you settling in? It's nice, isn't it? That bridge was fun to drive over, wasn't it? Very good.

To help all you new freshers settle in to your new digs this month, we've been speaking to folk up and down the country to get THEIR tips on the cities you'll be calling home for the next three (or more!) years.

Today, Iwan from Bristol Exchange chimes in with his advice on the city way out west...

HELLO! WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO?

“My name is Iwan Best. I'm 27, I'm the Social Media Manager at Bristol Exchange and I also work behind the bar.”

WHAT’S IT LIKE WORKING IN A VENUE? WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

“Working at a small independent music venue is ace. Getting to watch amazing, diverse acts play every night feels like a privilege.  There's also a real sense of camaraderie with everyone working here; we're all really proud to represent such an important part of Bristol's music scene.”

WHAT’S THE BEST SHOW YOU’VE SEEN HERE?

“Beach Slang are definitely the best band in the world (apparently I've been known to exaggerate!) and on both their visits they've captivated the room in a way I've never seen from another band.  They're just incredible.”

DO YOU THINK THE CITY LOOKS AFTER STUDENTS IN TERMS OF SAFETY & TRANSPORT?

“Taxis are well regulated and buses run all night so that's better than some places I've lived!”

WHAT FIRST BROUGHT YOU TO THE CITY? DID YOU/ARE YOU STUDYING HERE?

“I studied in Bath but always came to Bristol a lot because there's just so much going on.  I now live here and I'm lucky enough to be part of what's happening.”

WHAT MAKES BRISTOL SUCH A GREAT STUDENT TOWN?

“Whatever you're in to you'll be able to find here.  Bristol is the new London right?!”

ANY OFF-THE-BEATEN TRACK TIPS YOU CAN OFFER TO BRISTOL NEWCOMERS?

“Roll for the Soul is an amazing not-for-profit cafe / music venue / bike workshop (obviously).  Also, Fi Real in Old Market is an amazing vegan Caribbean food cafe.”

THANKS IWAN!
