Tour, Tattoos, and the Macabre: Stylings with Angel Haze

Written by LNTV Staff / June 22, 2016

Angel Haze has nothing to hide. Standing on a Los Angeles street, the rapper describes the origins behind a few of their many tattoos. They're a visual map of their experiences; some elicit a laugh, while others serve as constant reminders of pain and sadness. "This is a picture of Basquiat painted with a mask that I got with my ex," they say. "I was gonna cover up, but I wasn't ready to let go yet, so it's still there."

Haze is vulnerable and genuine and doesn't care what you think about them. Whatever they talk about, whether it's their upcoming world tour or their ambitions to lie on their deathbed covered in tattoos, their excitement is palpable. When we met the "Werkin' Girls" singer in Los Angeles, they were excited to meet legendary tattoo artist Sean From Texas. Sean's gained a cult following due to his macabre drawing style. "All the tattoos are super gory," Haze explains as they scroll through his Instagram account. "If you get a tattoo by Sean, you are either dark, devastated, demented, or just damn sure of what you want."

In this episode of Stylings, we follow Haze to Sean's tattoo shop, where they bond over creating things that last and translating the darkness of life into art. "The darker colors make the brighter ones seem amazing," they explain while referencing Sean's work, but they may as well be talking about their own.
