RELIVE GAGA'S EPIC HALFTIME SHOW

Written by Live Nation Sweden / February 13, 2017

Lady Gaga is perfection. Exaggeration? Maybe. But is it totally true? In our eyes (and ears), yes.

What a wild ride she took us on this year at the Super Bowl LI. The level of expectation preceding these annual performances is almost at an unattainable level, with audiences expecting bigger and better year after year. Thankfully Gaga is no stranger to big and bold performances—in case you missed the spectacular show, you can stream the entire performance right here:

Fitting for what has to be known as the most American event all year, Gaga opened up with a beautifully sung mashup of “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land.” Standing tall on the roof of the NRG Stadium, the pop star was dressed in an intergalactic bodysuit covered with sparkling studs and had a magical flight of drones lined up to form an American flag as the perfect backdrop to complete the look.

After this majestic opening, she then jumped off the ledge and catapulted herself into the arena to land gracefully on a tall halftime stage platform. With a short "Edge of Glory” teaser, she jumped right into one of her biggest songs to date, “Poker Face.” Packed with arena-worthy pyrotechnics, an incredibly skilled dance crew and even Gaga’s own acrobatic skill, the 13-minute show ran through a handful of her biggest songs, including “Born This Way,” “Telephone,” “Just Dance” and “Bad Romance.”

Unless you've taken a seat and counted off just how many hits Lady Gaga has made throughout her illustrious career, it is pretty shocking to hear so many classic pop anthems from one artist being sung in a row—and even more shocking once you realize she even left some out.

Keeping the tempo mixed up, she even performed her heart-wrenching “Million Reasons” on the piano as an emotional tribute to her latest album Joanne.

One of our favorite moments during the show was her powerful performance of “Born This Way,” a song with lyrics more powerful now than ever before. Without making any explicit claims or references to the current divisive state of the nation, Gaga still sent a powerful message of inclusivity and diversity out to the 111.3 million viewers last night.

“This land is your land, this land is my land…”

"No matter gay, straight, or bi / Lesbian, transgendered life /I'm on the right track baby / I was born to survive No matter black, white or beige / Chola or orient made / I'm on the right track baby / I was born to be brave”

According to Fox News, the Super Bowl viewership peaked during Lady Gaga’s halftime show, which generated a 50.0 Nielsen rating. 5.1 million tweets were sent out regarding her performance and her Twitter handle, @LadyGaga, was mentioned over 2 million times in less than one hour.

It’s safe to say Gaga knocked it way out of the park this year. Though we weren’t treated with her usual level of unpredictable, out-of-this-world antics, us Little Monsters couldn’t have asked for a better show. Thank you as always, Mother Monster. Mic drop.
