Interview with In Flames

Written by LNTV Germany / August 25, 2017

We met guitarist Björn Gelotte from In Flames for an interview and talked to him about the differences between club shows and festival gigs, the challenges of 25 years of band history and rituals before going on stage.

In Flames' history goes back to the year 1990. Back then singer, drummer and guitarist Jesper Strömblad didn't feel comfortable with the sound of his band Ceremonial Oath anymore and decided to form In Flames. After the first demos, the band released its first album "Lunar Strain", which was the only album recorded in the original formation of the band. Already with the next album "The Jester Race" something became apparent that is still a characteristic trait for the band: a constantly changing line-up of band members facilitates new sound approaches. None of the original band members are left, but the creativity of the band is defined by guitarrist Björn Gelotte, who is a band member since 1995, and singer Anders Fridén. Supplemented by three more band members, they keep on defining the stylistic range of Modern Metal new and now have a steadily growing fan base worldwide.

The guys from Sweden constantly cultivate and are always open to new genres and influences. This brave and unexpected development led to the success of their twelve albums, from which they have sold over three million units worldwide with their international recognition still growing. Their tenth album „Sounds Of A Playground Fading“ turned out to be their most successful album up to date, being the first one to peak the German charts and hitting top ten positions in Sweden, Finland and Austria as well as entering remarkable chart positions in the US and UK. Thereby In Flames carved their way to a mainstream audience despite their progressive approach and sensitized more and more people of the class and quality of their Metal sound.

At the end of this year In Flames are coming on double headline tour with Five Finger Death Punch. This is definitely a tour not to miss for whoever is into ‚state-of-the-art‘ modern Metal.
