The Weeknd is ruling the charts with Blinding Lights these days. But who is he really? Though he doesn't keep a lot of his life a secret, there are still some fun facts that many people don't know.

1. His real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye

You could've guessed his real name isn't The Weeknd, but did you know he goes by Abel?

 

2. He supported Justin Timberlake on tour

Not many have the honour to tour with Justin Timberlake, but The Weeknd is one of them! In 2013, he opened Justin's stage on the 20/20 Experience tour.

 

3. His album 'Starboy' is named after David Bowie

The Weeknd revealed 'Starboy' was 100% influenced by the deaths of David Bowie and Prince. He named the album after Bowie's 'Starman'. "I just love him. He's the ultimate inventor," he said.

 

4. He has Ethiopian roots

His parents moved from Ethiopia to Canada in the '80s. He grew up in Toronto, and never left the city until he was 21!

 

5. Abel is a big Michael Jackson fan

He even covered MJ's Dirty Diana!
