Last night, April 7th, Thom Yorke joined the Minimalist Dream House band during their second act to perform brand new composition "Don't Fear the Light" and song "Gawpers." The band was named to honor midcentury pioneer La Monte Young and the performance took place at La Philharmonie in Paris, France.
The group is comprised of The National's Bryce Dessner, composer-guitarist David Chalmin, and pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque, who sat on a grand Steinbeck piano, center stage.
After the band performed a slew of compositions both old and new, Yorke entered the stage and went into "Don't Fear the Light," a three part suite that was led by the Labèque sisters. The song was ambient, brooding and reminiscent of Yorke's Suspiria tracks.
The piece lasted 10 minutes, then was followed by shorter, new track "Gawpers," which Yorke lended vocals to (he doesn't for "Don't Fear the Light"). He encored by returning to the stage to perform Suspiria's "Suspirium" with the sisters and Dessner. Yorke's signature wavy dance moves started to poke through during the piece
