HIGH NOTES: BEARSON {CHANGE THIS}

Norwegian DJ/Producer Bearson made a stop in Orange County last week at the Yost Theater. If you haven’t heard his music yet, I highly suggest you take a listen.

Upon arrival, local openers A&S were warming up the floor with some heavily rotated deep house tracks that have been remixed to add a kick, like Disclosure’s “When A Fire Starts To Burn” and Tiga’s “Bugatti.” Also opening were future bass and electro artists, Spirix and Sober Rob.

Bearson’s individual style resembles a balanced blend of pop and dance, perfect for those who have yet to find their niche in electronic music but are looking to explore. Light, airy and bright, his music emanates daytime pool party vibes.

Steering away from his usual bright tones for the late night setting, Bearson went into a more club-friendly set that featured some heavier bass lines to get the crowd moving. Picking up the tempo and stirring up some energy in the room, he laid down some trap beats and high energy bangers. Bearson even brought his crew along, with Oshi and fellow Next Wave artist Jerry Folk making guest appearances on the decks.

A few people I chatted with in the crowd told me they had only recently began listening to electronic dance music, which just goes to show how essential these crossover artists are for opening doors to other channels of sound. Though I’ve personally veered away from this style of music, I found myself nodding along to the music without even realizing.

The young producer has now released four original singles via Ultra, Next Wave Records and Sony Music, but he first gained traction in the blogosphere primarily through his popular remixes. Listen to his remix of “Let It Go,” by James Bay:

Just last week, Bearson released the music video for his single “One Step at a Time,” featuring a new vocalist in the scene, Natalola. The video was directed by Route Eleven’s Mac Boucher and effortlessly captures the colorful spirit of the song.

“Working with Route Eleven on this music video was a true honor. I’ve been a big fan of Grimes’ music videos, so getting to work with the people behind videos was a great experience,” Bearson says. You can watch the hypnotic video right here:
