David Esquivel / BERTRAND GUAY / April 22, 2020

On April 21, 2016 the world truly lost a great, our dearly beloved Prince departed this world. Four years after his death and the music world is still in mourning, it's not every day such a profound artist who has impacted pop culture on the levels Prince has, passes. His legacy will remain alive through all of the gifts he unleashed upon the world during his time here, as a singer/songwriter/musician/producer/dancer/actor and filmmaker, he left plenty of art for us to dive into.
When it comes to the music, the Minneapolis, Minnesota-born singer was in a league of his own. Growing up in a musical household, the son of jazz singer Mattie Della Shaw Baker and pianist/songwriter John Lewis Nelson, Prince took to music from a young age, writing his first song on his fathers piano at only seven years old. The music didn't stop there, of course, the artist would go on to become an unmatched force in the entertainment industry. His Purple Rain film and soundtrack catapulted the young singer into a bonafide superstar and household name. From there the impact he had on shaping the music industry was insurmountable.
As we honor Prince today, we're going to explore his final two shows that took place on April 14, 2016 at Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia – these two shows were originally scheduled for April 7 but were postponed due to the flu.
Dubbed the Piano & a Microphone Tour, Prince would play two shows per night throughout the trek with each show clocking in around one hour and twenty minutes.
The first show that took place on April 14 at the Fox Theater began at 7:00PM EST and included a 24-song setlist that opened with "Little Red Corvette/Dirty Mind." While the 7PM show didn't include any encores, Prince did close his set with his timeless hit, "Kiss." During this set he covered the Peanuts theme, Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy," Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" and David Bowie's "Heroes."

Right after, the first of three encores took place, beginning with "Cream." The final encore included two songs which were "Sometimes It Snows in April" and closed with a medley of "Purple Rain," "The Beautiful Ones," and "Diamonds and Pearls."
