They came, they riffed, they blew our tiny little minds.
Metallica have just wrapped up their second show at The O2 on the UK leg of the WorldWired tour and aside from being a show like no other (scroll down for evidence), it was also a record-breaking double whammy for the LA titans.
Playing in-the-round - i.e. in the middle of the venue floor on a circular stage - the band smashed the record for the most people attending a show at The O2 ever. Not just once... but twice! After doing it once on Sunday night, 22,211 of you were there with horns in the air for night two. The previous record was set by Muse in 2016
Speaking of the achievement, The O2's Christian D'Acuna says: “Metallica smashed the attendance record during both of their shows at The O2. Not only did they achieve the highest attendance in our ten year history, they were easily one of the loudest we’ve had too. We know the fans absolutely loved every minute of it and they are truly one of the greatest bands in the world.”
And how did it look? Well, just feast your eyes on this lot...
There used to be a time when I had to get on a 10 hour+ flight to be able to see my favourite bands perform live. Now it's a few stops on the tube after a day full of walking through the worlds most beautiful streets and eating the worlds best food. What a life you give me London! Metallica round 4, how have they been smashing it for 36 years....?!
The remaining dates on the WorldWired tour are as follows...
26 - GLASGOW SSE Hydro
28 - MANCHESTER Arena
30 - BIRMINGHAM Genting Arena
