LN Christmas Gift Guides: What To Buy... Your Dad Who Rocks!

Written by Andy Ritchie / December 18, 2016

If you've left it 'til December to start the Christmas shopping... shame on you! Just kidding, we're all in the same boat. Over the coming weeks, we'll be passing on our tips for the best gigs of 2017, and offering you a few ideas for those last minute gifts. Sound good? Great.

First up, it's yer da.

If yours isn't one, we ALL know a dad who's still living his rough 'n tumble, carefree youth. You know the type: he's got the leather jacket on and at every family gathering, he's the first to whip out the acoustic guitar for a run-through of 'More Than A Feeling'. To make your life a bit easier this festive season (and make sure he's got a big 'ol grin on his face come Christmas morn), why not pick him up a ticket to one of the below this year...?

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Guns N' Roses' Not In This Lifetime tour
WHERE / WHEN: They play two dates at London Stadium in June.
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: It's the first time Slash, Axl and Duff have shared the same stage in almost two decades. Put it this way: if he likes rock in any capacity, he's going to want to witness this.
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Jeff Lynne's ELO: Alone In The Universe Tour
WHERE / WHEN: SHEFFIELD Arena (21st June) / LONDON Wembley Stadium (24th June)
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: Because quite simply, the Alone In The Universe Tour is out of this world. Not to mention, Jeff Lynne is one of the greatest living songwriters and performers, and has been since your dad was a young'un.
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Iron Maiden's Book Of Souls Tour
WHERE / WHEN: They have 12 arena shows lined up across the UK in May.
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: The Book Of Souls tour has been around the world and back, but it's only just making its way to the UK. Expect hits, riffs, fireworks and some of the best showmanship around from frontman Bruce Dickinson.
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Black Sabbath's last ever shows
WHERE / WHEN: The end really is nigh: they'll make their final jaunt across the country in January, before wrapping up with two shows at the Genting Arena in their hometown of Birmingham on 4th February.
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: If dad grew up in the formative days of heavy metal and he *hasn't* got a ticket for this yet, something's definitely wrong. Better pick a pair of tickets up just to be safe.
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... The loudest silent movie on earth - Gutterdämmerung
WHERE / WHEN: Join the fun at O2 Academy Brixton on 11th February.
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: It's an experience like no other. Part live rock opera, part projected film, Gutterdämmerung features everyone who's everyone in rock history. If he's a completist, he needs to see this.
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Monster Truck
WHERE / WHEN: Catch 'em on the road in March.
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: Because he might not have heard of them yet. And he really, really needs to.
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Sting
WHERE / WHEN: He brings his 59th & 9th tour to Manchester and London in April.
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: Come on, it's STING!
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Thunder
WHERE / WHEN: March. Everywhere.
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: The British rock legends have been spinning their wares for nearly 30 years now and they're still going strong. A reliable gift, if ever there was one!
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Ghost's Popestar Tour
WHERE / WHEN: They'll be rolling into a town near you at the end of March / beginning of May
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: Under the masks and the theatrics, Ghost are just a really great psych-rock band. Expect him to dig out his old '70s psychedelic records after the show for nostalgia's sake.
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Blackberry Smoke
WHERE / WHEN: They've a whole run lined up for the spring
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: If laid-back Americana is yer da's thing, he'll love Blackberry Smoke. Plus they have some of the lushest vocal lines this side of Georgia.
TICKETS

GET HIM A TICKET TO... Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds
WHERE / WHEN: The duo play two nights at London's Eventim Apollo in March
WHY HE'LL LOVE IT: What, other than the fact he'll get two of the greatest living songwriters doing their thing on the same night?!
TICKETS

We hope there's something in there to help you cross dad off the Crimbo list. And if not, remember... there's always beer!
