World, meet songwriting prodigy Ethan Gruska…
You may already be familiar with Ethan Gruska as one half of the acclaimed indie-pop duo Belle Brigade. Formed by Gruska and his sister Barbara, the pair’s 70s-influenced, bright and breezy pop saw them draw comparisons with Fleetwood Mac, the Beach Boys and the Eagles.
Musical talent obviously runs in the L.A. singer-songwriter’s family – his father Jay Gruska is a well-regarded film and television composer, and his grandfather is none other than multiple-Oscar-winning film composer John Williams.
After Belle Brigade went on hiatus in 2008, Gruska began to focus on his solo material, exploring a more raw and spontaneous approach to songwriting.
Speaking of his writing process, Gruska said “I really tried to let that humanity in and to not only leave these quirky blemishes in, but to highlight them. I didn’t want perfect. I wanted true. I wanted honest.”
The result was ‘Slowmotionary’, a minimalistic, but deeply personal body of work which has seen Gruska compared to prolific songwriters like Joni Mitchell, Elliott Smith and Bon Iver.
Ethan Gruska touches down in London’s Slaughtered Lamb for an intimate gig on July 26th, the perfect setting to hear his incredible songwriting live.
