Introducing: Alina Baraz

Written by Megan Snell / July 05, 2018

Singer-songwriter Alina Baraz has a sound nestled somewhere in between downtempo electronica and slightly-left-of-centre R&B.

Discovering her passion for songwriting at the age of 19 during the creation of her first song ‘Roses Dipped in Gold’ Baraz promptly upped sticks from her native Ohio and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her music career full-time.

Her breakthrough came in the form of debut project ‘Urban Flora’, an eight-track EP created exclusively over the internet with producer Galimatias, who Baraz connected with via Soundcloud. The release was championed by the likes of The Guardian and Huffington Post, and sat on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart for over 125 weeks, peaking at #2.

Baraz followed up this success in 2017 with a collaborative single ‘Electric’, this time featuring guest vocalist Khalid.

Her first solo EP ‘The Color of You’ arrived in April this year.
