Huge news for the Arcade Fire camp, as their fifth album 'Everything Now' hit the Number 1 spot in the UK Album Charts over the weekend. YES!
'Everything Now' shifted 36,000 copies in its first week, outselling its closest competitor, Ed Sheeran's 'Divide' by 2 to 1. And that IS something.
Speaking of the album in their four-star review, The Guardian said:
"It’s another big-hearted party album for the end of the world – in the spirit, if not the style, of Gorillaz’s Humanz – and restates Arcade Fire’s rousing, compassionate raison d’être in new iterations. Collaborators such as Steve Mackey (ex-Pulp) and Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk) join returnee producer Markus Dravs in fleshing out Arcade Fire’s evolving sound."
Meanwhile, Rolling Stone were equal in their praise, stating:
"Ultimately, Everything Now is about having a cultural banquet on offer and still feeling hungry. "A terrible song on the radio, baby/What else is new?" laments Butler on "We Don't Deserve Love," a queasy, gorgeous ballad that wonders if the human race has maybe earned its pending extinction. Jury's out. But Arcade Fire have made a perfect soundtrack for pondering the question."
But don't just take their word for it! Get yourself streaming (on Spotify or iTunes), download or picking up a copy of the album now to hear the fruits of their labour for yourself.
